THE CLIENT. Borough Music School, a local charity that provides comprehensive music education for children in the diverse and multicultural London Borough of Southwark.
THE BRIEF. Borough Music School needed marketing and communications support to attract attention from potential students and funders, to ensure this small charity could survive and continue to improve the lives of London’s children through music. To give back to our local area, I offered marketing and communications support pro bono to Borough Music School for two years.
BRANDING. Award-winning branding agency The Team had designed an impressive pro bono visual identity for the charity, but BMS needed help to implement it in their outreach, collateral and website. I liaised with The Team to access the designs, then helped BMS implement the branding on everything from banners to flyers and concert tickets.
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS. I also helped Borough Music School craft their communications, to ensure the brand values and tone of voice are consistent and send a clear message about the charity’s important remit and its future plans. We interviewed dozens of BMS pupils and families for quotes about how the charity changes lives. We set up and managed the charity’s Twitter account and Facebook pages, building relationships over the two years. We designed a banner and marketing materials for events and fundraising. When 3BIS Gelateria in Borough Market wanted to support the school with fundraising promotions, I designed a series of posters promoting the ‘heartwarming ice cream’ for the shop’s interior. And I helped the charity’s website designer implement the branding on the site, emphasising the photography which tells the brand story in a more human way.
